Samsung Electronics unveiled the newest iteration of its foldable phone series on Wednesday, releasing three new models in its high-end Galaxy Z series.
The company unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold7, Galaxy Z Flip7, and the more affordable Galaxy Z Flip7 FE at a high-profile event in Brooklyn.
The seventh-gen Galaxy Z Fold7 is Samsung's thinnest and lightest foldable to date, weighing only 215 grams — even less than the Galaxy S25 Ultra. The phone is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and delivers an enhanced on-device AI experience without impacting performance.
At a mere 8.9 mm thick when folded and 4.2 mm when unfolded, the Fold7 has a more streamlined shape. It also boasts a generous 8-inch 5 Dynamic AMOLED 2X main screen, which is 11% bigger than before — a definite plus for users who multitask or do content editing on the move.
"Galaxy Z Fold7 marries Galaxy AI with robust hardware to bring our most sophisticated smartphone experience to date," said TM Roh, President and Acting Head of the Device eXperience (DX) Division at Samsung Electronics.
Samsung has fortified the structure by employing Advanced Armor Aluminum both in the frame and hinge structure. The latest Armor FlexHinge is more slender and lightweight, whereas the external screen is shielded with Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2, increasing both the resistance to cracks and the durability.
For the first time in the Fold series, Samsung is launching a 200-megapixel wide-angle camera with premium image capabilities. The Fold7 also comes with up to 16 GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, making it apt for power users as well as professionals.
Apart from its premium models, Samsung has also introduced the Galaxy Z Flip7 FE, a less expensive foldable version that still maintains essential features while presenting a lower price tag.
"This new chapter for foldables brings design and engineering together, with AI purpose-built for the foldable form. It delivers people the ultra experience they demand— powerful, immersive, intelligent, and portable in one," Roh added.
Ever since its launch in 2019, the Galaxy Z Fold series has built a strong brand identity for itself in the ultra-premium space. But in the segment now, more brands such as Vivo and Motorola are competing with their own foldable smartphones.
In India, where Apple battles Samsung in the above-USD 1,000 premium segment, the market is changing. Based on IDC's Q1 2025 numbers, Vivo dominated the Indian smartphone market with a 19.7% share, with Samsung lagging behind at 16.4%.
With the release of its new foldables, Samsung is looking to maintain its leadership in the foldable segment and ride on its AI and design innovations to attract tech-savvy users as well as more mainstream consumers.
